Who's Chicken??

I just ordered some chickens. We have 12 acres, a huge barn, and a coop already in place... so why not? They'll help with bug control, hopefully tolerate the kids, and give us eggs.
I ordered 10 Araucana hens (think blue green eggs):

10 mixed sex Birchen Cochin Bantams,

and 6 mixed sex White Crested Black Polish. Aren't they hysterical? They won't be here until May, due to the fact I wanted specific breeds. That will give us plenty of time to freshen up the coop.

Enjoy your weekend!

You go, Girl! You will be a real Farm Girl in no time. Please don't make me go in there when I come to visit. I don't think I do chicken coops. LOL.

I can't wait to see them when you get them.

Oh Lord!! Girl you are crazy...but go on with your bad self!!!!! I mean crazy because what kind of maintenance do these bad boys need? How much time is involved, cause I know you are already a busy woman!!! Maybe you should become a stay at home Hen mother and invite us all over for lemonade--cause what would be better than to spend quality time with quality girlfriends watching the chicken run around and the sun go down?....oh I can see it now lazy summer evening..yum!!

You could be the local egg lady! Seriously my sister in law has an egg lady that delivers fresh eggs to her home...she gets like five dozen at a time...no hormones and all that great stuff! You are going to love your ladies! They are stinky but they are cool the same time and my uncle use to have chickens. He also had a mean rooster but that is a story all to itself...LOL

OOO take us along on your journey with your birds!!! This is exciting! I love IT!

Oh Wow, I so want to do this myself, but full time farm livin' is not in the picture right now and my city has an ordinance against chickens - or I would probably have some now... Farm fresh eggs from free range chickens - so healthy. The kids will love them. My friend Stacey's boys used to treat her chickens as pets...too cute. Can't wait to read the upcoming blogs regarding your chickens! I already have egg envy! xo Julie

I love this!!!! We had a few one time and since they were raised from chicks they loved the kids! If my husband sat outside one would sit on his shoulder...and lay an egg for him on his workbench!!! I think they will be a hoot and the boys will love them ~ hugs and love, Dawn

Hi Lee! I think that is so cool!!! Blue green eggs...way cool! I have always thought it would be neat to have chickens, but I don't think my neighbors would appreciate it...unfortunately my bitty property (think 1/3 an acre, not 12) does not include a barn :)

Hugs ~

Thanks for the memories. My dad and I raised those exact kind of chickens when I was young. I took them as 4-H projects to our county fair!! Your kids will have a blast when they come and gathering eggs will be so special. Easter eggs all the time without the work!! LOL
