Honest (s)Crap

Tammy tagged me on her blog, so I thought I would play.

The Rules are this:

A) First list 10 honest things about yourself - and make it interesting, even if you have to dig deep!*

B) Pass the award on to 7 bloggers that you feel embody the spirit of the Honest Scrap.

1. I used to be a real control freak. I would balance my checkbook down to the penny- and spend an hour trying to find a few cents.
2. I can be a real grump. If I'm tired- forget it. Ask the people who lived next to me in college.
3. I practice my nursing craft with very high standards, and it makes me a little insane, and very judgmental, to see other NOT do the same.
4. I love taking care of really sick, unstable patients. It's a HUGE adreneline rush.
5. I still have trouble believing that anything I do is good enough.
6. I'm jealous that my sister is the favorite- somehow I feel jipped. (Ouch, this one hurts).
7. I'm pretty cheap. Even if I had a lot of money, there are some things I just won't spend money on.
8. I used to hold everyone at arms length, very closed down and guarded. Tammy showed me how to open up and trust in my friends. She has shown me what love can exist between friends. She totally gets me. I'm lucky.
9. I learned very early on to keep my mouth shut. Now that I'm an adult- ain't happening. I can be very opinionated, but I'm always willing to listen to the other side. BUT, I probably won't change my mind.
10. I want to be the east coast version of the Farm Chicks in 5 years.

Seven of you out there can play now. I'm suppsoed to name people- but I'm not even sure who reads this!

Sneak Peek

I bought this 45 album at Good Will about a year ago for $1. As soon as I saw it, I snapped it up, knowing it would be altered at some point. It is bound like a scrapbook album, with the metal post and screw. It's missing one, so if anyone out there knows where I can get one, PLEASE email me.
The covers are missing, so I had to make them. I used some flat canvases that I had. They've been sitting for a year too... Anyway, I had to figure out how to attach them to the album. First I used duct tape, which was awesome. But it wouldn't flex enough. So, I ended up sewing some seem binding to the backside of the canvas and the cardboard strip (left from the original cover). It gives it more bending room- let's just hope it stay intact.

I am still not telling the song I chose, but I will show you the cover. I turned Chris Cornell into the man on the moon.

I printed an image out and used it for inspiration. How'd I do?

Get your thinking caps on girls, this is going into the mail soon.....

Secrets for Vesna

Today, like every other day, we wake up empty and frightened.
Don't open the door to the study and begin reading.
Take down a musical instrument
Let the beauty we love be what we do.
There are hundreds of ways to kneel and kiss the ground.

The breeze at dawn has secrets to tell you.
Don't go back to sleep.
You must ask for what you really want.
Don't go back to sleep.
People are going back and forth across the doorsill
where the two worlds touch.
The door is round and open.
Don't go back to sleep.

I would love to kiss you.
The price of kissing is your life.
Now my loving is running toward my life shouting,
What a bargain, let's buy it.

Daylight, full of small dancing particles and the one great turning,
our souls are dancing with you, without feet, they dance.
Can you see them when I whisper in your ear?

All day and night, music,
a quiet, bright
reedsong.
If it fades, we fade.
Mevlana Rumi (1207 - 1273)

Round Robin Time!

I am hosting my first round robin! I am very excited. It is based on lyrics. Each participant will make a book that includes lyrics from the song of her choice. Then as the book gets passed around, each player will interpret the lyrics and do pages accordingly! Doesn't that sound cool?
I'm having trouble picking my song. Want to help? Click on the links, read the lyrics, then vote in the comment section! I won't promise to use the song that gets the most votes, but I am interested in what YOU would find interesting.

I Am The Highway- Audioslave (also on my playlist)
Secret Journey- The Police

Now, I know some of these are a bit far out, but that's the whole point. I want to stretch- and I mean STRETCH- hard for this challenge. I'm leaning towards the first song. Or even maybe another of Chris Cornell's- 'cause you know he rocks!! LOL.

Tell me, what song provokes images in your head?

Another Gypsy Woman.

I found this image on the internet- god only knows from where. This woman has been in 3 of my pieces so far. Whenever I use her, I picture a thousand images in my head.... sounds like I need to do a series! I envision different colors in the background, maybe with a single word to convey my point. The possibilities are endless.

The most recent piece was for my friend Catherine. Of course, I forgot to take a picture of it before I mailed it to her. But she kindly scanned it for me, so at least there's some record of it!!

I love the colors. The background is done in layers of paint and paper, nicely texturized with a heat gun. The brass circles are from a bunch I bought on eBay. (Some of you out there know how much I love metal bits!! I need to get them listed on etsy and Lollishops).

What image do you love? Is there a face that inspires you? Show me!

SCREAM

So I call for a doctor's appointment and can't even get through the line. Uh oh, you know I'm not the only one sick. My PA has been out sick for 3 days- think it's the flu? Anyway, they're short. OK. Who else is there...? She asks me why I need to be seen today. I tell the receptionist I have the flu. She asks about my symptoms... ???? Are you KIDDING me?!? Since when is a receptionist qualified to assess my need to an appointment based on my symptoms. GIVE ME A BREAK.

So, in honor of this, here's the lyrics to Chris Cornell's new song SCREAM.

Take a minute to tell you right
And you can say what you want
Turn around every night
So now you're always going off
Doesn't matter what I've done
Or if I even crossed the line
Is that the hollar going for blood
Girl, it doesn't have to be a fight

Throwing out the blame when you know it ain't my fault
Messing with my brain when you want to see me fall
There may come a time when I don't bother you at all
It isn't my call, it isn't my call

Hey, why you keep screaming at the top of your head?
I say hey, why you keep screaming at the top of your head?
I say hey, why you keep screaming at the top of your head?I say hey, why you keep screaming at the top of your head?
[There's no need to scream, babyI'm standing right in front of your faceWhyI know sometimes we don't get alongSo Chris sing the second verse to youLike this]

Take a minute to tell you now
Don't have to raise my tone
Take the level and bring it down
I just want you to know
I got no trouble with what you said
I don't even think you're wrong
It's how you say it
You lose your head
Girl I'm standing right in front of you

Throwing out the blame when you know it ain't my fault
Messing with my brain when you want to see me fall
There may come a time when I don't bother you at all
It isn't my call, it isn't my call

Hey, why you keep screaming at the top of your head?(at the top of your head)
I say hey, why you keep screaming at the top of your head? (at the top of your head)
I say hey, why you keep screaming at the top of your head?(at the top of your head)
I say hey, why you keep screaming at the top of your head?(hey i hear)

Silence is golden
I used to think that silence was golden
Silence is golden
I used to think that silence was golden
Silence is golden
I used to think that silence was golden

There is a god

and his name is Chris Cornell (Soundgarden, Audioslave). Seriously. The guy rocks. His new album is due out soon. Can't wait!! You can go watch his new video here. I saw him and SG a million years ago in concert- I think it was maybe BadMotorFinger. The music was SO loud you couldn't hear his voice. I love the new song Scream. I prefer his heavier music, but I'll take whatever!! My sister told me it's about divorcing his wife, but I swear that it's her in the video...

Valentine Eye Candy

OK folks, this is going to be a long post- at least as far as pictures go! So sit tight and feast your eyes...

I was invited to do a Valentine ornament swap by Natalea Kanderfer of Kandeland. We were to make 10 ornies, of any medium we chose. I showedd you a peek of mine a few posts ago- darned if I didn't forget to take a better picture. BUT- who needs a picture of mine, when you can look at these?

First- the box. You know it's going to be good when you open it and it looks like this:
Vivian Neroni sent this sweet bird and crepe ornament, complete with tiny, bright pink tinsel.

Then, came my girl Tammy's from The Other Side of Me. I love the postcard tag and the bird. She took an amazing amount of time to spruce up this little bird!

Cindy Gilstrap of Junque Art sent this pretty, neutral, sewn ornament. Gotta love old paper.Heather Rowley of Speckled Egg sent this lovely goodie- couldn't you just eat it?

Sandy Camarda of Sandy's Creations sent a pink goodie bag that had a chenille backed pillow ornament. Isn't the pink ribbon lovely? There is a little silver heart charm sewn on to the bottom that you cannot see.

Kathy Jacobson sent such an amazing glass glittered key, attached to a wonderful crepey heart. I love german glass glitter!!

Sarah Keith of Vintage Lily sent this, I think. It didn't have a name, but she was on the list. Aren't all these goodies amazing? The tag was done with wax, which I just love.

Alisa Noble of Life Is A Beautiful Place sent this beautifully done ornament, complete with a sweet, flocked bag. I love how she used blue on her heart.

Jeanne Swezczyk of Collage Art Studio sent me this, complete with a lollipop. I 'll have to keep it away from the kids! This sweet little girl is 3-D, with each piece of the ornament being layered.
And last, not not least, NATALEA~!! She sent a few goodies too! Silly girl- she's the hostess, she's supposed to let us send her extras.

To all of the ladies involved- thank you so much for making such beautiful swap items. I love each of them, and have them displayed in my kitchen.

To all of my readers, please check out the blogs mentioned above- there's so much goodness out there!

Baby, it's cold- no, make that FREEZING- outside

This morning it was a whopping 12 degrees here. No wonder the school was delayed for 2 hours. 1. there was some ice and new snow on the roads, but more importanly 2. it was too cold for kids to stand outside. When we were kids, I honestly don't remember having a delay due to cold weather. Nor did we have as many snow days. In those days, I guess liability wasn't as big of a factor. In fact, once we got stuck on an uphill curve on snowy road, and had to wait to be "rescued."

Anyway, the kids went sledding the other day, when it wasn't so cold out. Jason received a snow board from Santa, and he was trying it out. He was only going down a slight hill, but it was perfect for him to get the hang of it. His cousin, Hannah, spent the day with us. Adam enjoyed it too, but he doesn't stay out that long.

What did you do today? Hugs, Lee
