Flea Market Finds

Oh boy, the junking bug has bitten me! I go through phases of wanting buy different ephemera. First it was old books. Now it's anything that might be altered into something else. Like this mug tree- doesn't it just have tons of possibilities? Imagine it covered in creamy paint, with a bird's nest on top, filled with goodies. And more goodies hanging from it. The bracelets are precious, and will become a pretty dangly thing. I especially love the little silver one at the bottom left, with a cross at the clasp. Maybe it was a First Communion gift.

Or these little Westbend aluminum cups- maybe there were popover cups at one time... but they might have a second life as Christmas ornaments filled with pretty vingettes. Or filled with goodies and tied up with ribbons. Or, I don't know- you tell me.

I also found a very cool addition to my kitchen utensils- a fryer basket. I used to have some old spoons and spatulas hanging on my wall. I switched them out not too long ago to a wreath and an egg/hen reproduction sign. So my next find will fit right in, but I have NO idea what it is. This 6 egg, aluminum, holder thingy. There are no makers marks on it anywhere. If you look closely, you can see the remnants of a leather snap. The snaps themselves were made in France. The inside straps are elastic. Elastic? It's not for chocolate, and I'm sure not for boiled eggs. I mean, elastic on food? Let me know if you have any ideas. I've been searching the internet, to no avail.

Just goes to show, you never know what you'll find at a thrift store.
Addendum: My friend Dona from Antekin knew what this was- it's a camping egg holder. No broken eggs when you take a hike!! Thanks Dona.

Look at those lovely flea market finds!

I lived in Boston for five years too - from 94-99. When were you there? What a coincidence.

So wonderful that you and Tammy are best buds - girlfriends are the absolute best.
