Before and After

I recently purchased an old mug stand from a thrift store (you can see it a couple of posts down). No way to tell how old it is, but it was in good shape, made of solid wood, and no cracks or anything.

I decided to recycle it and gave it a good sanding, some creamy paint, and then distressed it.

Doesn't it look great? Right now it has Easter eggs on it, but just think of the possibilities- jewelry, ornaments from any holiday, little pictures- or even mugs!! hehehe

Tammy and I are working on putting an online shop together, and this little treasure will be available there soon. Please go check out our new joint ventures- our Birds of a Feather blog, and our two shops at ecrater and Etsy. If you're interested in this mug stand before it hits the market, let me know. And if you have any ideas of products you'd like to see, but just can't seem to find anywhere, give us a shout. We might just have it in our stash!

Sweet

I'm tired this morning. Our littlest guy has a terrible cold and was up coughing. The past two mornings both boys are up early. Ugh.

I was gettingready for work and Chris came in to say goodbye.

"mumble mumble"

"what?"

"You look more beautiful every day."

Now that's the way to send a loved one off to work!

Me? an award?

Dona from Antekin gave me this great award... isn't it sweet? As some of know from the One World- One Heart contest/swap/blog event, the internet has opened doors to friendships that most of us wouldn't have had the opportunity to experience. We are so very lucky!
I will certainly pass this award on... look for more tomorrow!

Addendum: I'd like to pass this on to:

Tammy at The Other Side of Me

Linda Harre at Studio Stuff

Lynne at Lynne's Somewhat Invented Life

Susan Tuttle at Ilka's Attic

and Vera from Typed Words.

Pass this on to someone you think deserves it- someone who visits your blog often and leaves you comments, or someone's blog you enjoy reading!

Flea Market Finds

Oh boy, the junking bug has bitten me! I go through phases of wanting buy different ephemera. First it was old books. Now it's anything that might be altered into something else. Like this mug tree- doesn't it just have tons of possibilities? Imagine it covered in creamy paint, with a bird's nest on top, filled with goodies. And more goodies hanging from it. The bracelets are precious, and will become a pretty dangly thing. I especially love the little silver one at the bottom left, with a cross at the clasp. Maybe it was a First Communion gift.

Or these little Westbend aluminum cups- maybe there were popover cups at one time... but they might have a second life as Christmas ornaments filled with pretty vingettes. Or filled with goodies and tied up with ribbons. Or, I don't know- you tell me.

I also found a very cool addition to my kitchen utensils- a fryer basket. I used to have some old spoons and spatulas hanging on my wall. I switched them out not too long ago to a wreath and an egg/hen reproduction sign. So my next find will fit right in, but I have NO idea what it is. This 6 egg, aluminum, holder thingy. There are no makers marks on it anywhere. If you look closely, you can see the remnants of a leather snap. The snaps themselves were made in France. The inside straps are elastic. Elastic? It's not for chocolate, and I'm sure not for boiled eggs. I mean, elastic on food? Let me know if you have any ideas. I've been searching the internet, to no avail.

Just goes to show, you never know what you'll find at a thrift store.
Addendum: My friend Dona from Antekin knew what this was- it's a camping egg holder. No broken eggs when you take a hike!! Thanks Dona.

Happy Days- birthday and Valentine's

Ok, so I'm a day or two late. But, Happy Valentine's Day to all of you out there! I hope you enjoyed the day. It can be a little bit of a let down, no? My husband and I don't go all out for this day. Usually, a card and some candy will suffice. This Valentine's day was different. I woke up an came down to find ROSES- and candy and a card. I love roses.

Chris also gave me a wonderful Pandora bracelet! It had and "I Love You" charm for us, and 2 birthstone charms for the boys. My sisters got me charms for my brththday, which is on the 12th. Terry picked out a teapot, and Christine chose a silver shoe. So sweet! Of course, now I all I want to do is go buy a lot of charms! My mom got me a cool 10 drawer organizer for my art supplies.

So, my birthday was on the 12th. It's official- I'm in my 40's!! Part of me shudders at the thought, part of me could care less. The gray hair I could do without. And the cellulite. And the need for glasses. Blech. But I am definitely on top of my game. I am happy with my marriage, my family, my career, and most certainly my artsy adventures.
Speaking of which... my BFF Tammy sent me some awesome stuff for my birthday. The pictures aren't great- but man, they totally rock! (I really need to get my scanner up and working). I got Tammy hooked on scrapbooking when her daughter was born. But Tammy has taken the ball and RUN with it. Her craftiness and artfulness are outstanding. Go check her out! She sent me a wonderful hanging/b-day card, and she PAINTED a cool painting for me, with a skirt full of sentiment. She rocks, huh?
